One hundred years of Hermann Park —
what better cause for celebration?
Since 1914, the Park has been part of the family for generations growing up in Houston. Through the festivities of the year-long Centennial Celebration, everyone in the Houston community will have the chance to honor the special moments the Park has provided to a century’s worth of children and families, and commemorate the efforts made to preserve it for its next hundred years.
From temporary art installations to a family kite festival, special events all year long in 2014 will bring the community together and give visitors young and old memories that will last a lifetime. The Centennial Celebration will be a citywide effort, with many museums and cultural institutions partnering with the Conservancy on special programs, from lectures to musical performances.

In honor of Hermann Park's centennial in 2014, Hermann Park Conservancy commissioned a book on the history of this beloved Park. The book follows the Park's first 100 years from when philanthropist and real estate investor George Hermann announced his gift of 285 acres to the City of Houston in 1914 up to and including the Park's renaissance under the Hermann Park Conservancy in the last 20 years.
The beautifully-illustrated volume, written by historian and architect Barrie Scardino Bradley, makes the perfect gift for native Houstonians and newcomers alike!
The book is available for purchase for $45 in the Hermann Park Conservancy Gift Shop located on Lake Plaza and in other local retailers including the River Oaks Book Store, Blue Willow Book Store, Brazos Book Store, Whole Earth Provision, and more. Houston's Hermann Park is published by Texas A&M Press and is number sixteen in the Sara and John Lindsey Series in the Arts and Humanities.
Hermann Park Conservancy would like to thank those that signed up to be a Centennial Underwriter to help celebrate the Park’s 100th birthday this year.
